Baptism

Baptism

Made New

Through baptism, we are professing our faith in Christ by mirroring His death, burial, and resurrection. When you put our trust in Jesus, the Bible says you become a new creation.
Your old life is gone, and a new life has begun.

Only Jesus

Baptism doesn't save you—only Jesus can do that. But baptism is a powerful next step of obedience. It follows the example of Jesus, symbolizes new life in Him, and publicly declares your decision to follow Christ. It's your chance to say, "I belong to Jesus."

For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.

What Does Baptism Mean?

Baptism is a picture of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus.

For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.
— Colossians 2:12

Baptism shows the new life of someone who has put their faith in Jesus and given their life to Him.

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.
— 2 Corinthians 5:17

To follow the example set by Jesus.

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan.
— Mark 1:9

Because Jesus commanded it.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
— Matthew 28:19–20

It shows I really do believe in Jesus.

We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands.
— 1 John 2:3

Every person who believes in Christ should be baptized.

A believer is someone who has realized that their sin separated them from God. They have given up on trying to reach God through good works or religious activity. They believe that Jesus Christ's death on the cross paid for their sins and is the only thing that can bridge the gap between them and God. A believer has decided to trust Christ alone for their salvation. If you have come to that point in your spiritual journey, then you are ready to be baptized.

Those who accepted his message were baptized.
— Acts 2:41a

Because Jesus was baptized that way.

The word "baptize" literally means "to dip under water." Every baptism in the Bible was by immersion. As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water.
— Matthew 3:16

If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, it is the next step you should take! At Second, we offer baptisms during our weekend services. We will provide you with shorts, a t-shirt, and a towel.
